Philosophy
I love to teach! My goal is to develop well-rounded musicians who understand and appreciate music. I guide my students through a variety of music styles, such as classical, sacred, jazz, blues, and pop when requested. Lessons include music theory and history, sight reading, ear training, improvisation, composition, and piano technique. Studio incentives and awards provide motivation. Along the way, my students develop self-discipline, critical thinking skills, and responsibility.
Instead of entering my students in local music competitions, I focus on teaching them more piano literature in a given year. The advantage is that the students are exposed to a greater repertoire creating an enthusiasm and appreciation for music. I believe the best performance is one that is given for the community, so each year we hold our Christmas and Spring recitals at retirement communities and local nursing homes. Everyone has fun! The senior citizens love seeing the students and the students love having an appreciative audience.
